Four people die due to Israeli strike in Lebanon despite truce

(MENAFN) An Israeli air raid in southern Lebanon killed four individuals and wounded three others, marking another breach of the ceasefire agreement, according to reports from Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

The attack occurred late Saturday when an Israeli drone struck a vehicle traveling along the Doha-Kafarman road in the Nabatieh district. Reports indicated that the vehicle was completely destroyed, killing all four occupants. Two others passing by on a motorcycle were also injured in the blast. The explosion shattered windows across dozens of homes in the predominantly residential area of Doha.

The Israeli military acknowledged the operation, asserting that the strike targeted Hezbollah officials.

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon have escalated in recent weeks, with Israel carrying out intensified air assaults on southern towns despite the truce established in November 2024.

Defense Minister Israel Katz wrote on X that Lebanon’s president had delayed action on disarming Hezbollah, a key Israeli demand. “Hezbollah is playing with fire,” he warned, promising to increase military strikes if the group’s weapons are not surrendered.

Lebanon and Hezbollah have yet to issue a response to the remarks.

In August, the Lebanese government approved a proposal to place all weaponry under state authority. Hezbollah rejected the move, insisting it would not disarm until Israel fully withdraws from five occupied border outposts in southern Lebanon.

Since the outbreak of hostilities in October 2023, Israeli attacks have reportedly killed over 4,000 people and injured nearly 17,000 across Lebanon. Under the current ceasefire terms, Israel was expected to pull out from southern Lebanon by January, but it has only partially withdrawn and continues to occupy several border positions.
