Lebanon Says Israel War Crimes Over Journalist Attacks

(MENAFN) Lebanon’s prime minister has strongly condemned Israeli military actions targeting journalists in southern Lebanon, describing them as “war crimes” and accusing Israel of following a repeated and deliberate pattern of attacks, according to reports.

The Lebanese premier said that strikes on journalists, along with interference preventing rescue teams from reaching them and repeated attacks on the same locations after emergency crews arrive, amount to serious violations of international law.

He stated that such incidents are no longer isolated but represent a “documented pattern” that breaches established international legal and ethical standards.

“Lebanon will spare no effort in pursuing these crimes before the relevant international bodies,” he said.

Lebanon’s president also accused Israel of intentionally targeting members of the press, arguing that the aim is to obscure the reality of military operations in the country.

According to a presidential statement, he described the targeting of journalists as “crimes against humanity” under international law, calling for urgent international intervention to stop them.

The accusations followed the death of journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed while reporting in southern Lebanon, as confirmed by the Red Cross. Another journalist, Zeinab Faraj, was also affected in the same incident. Reports indicate that rescue efforts were obstructed after Israeli forces surrounded the area and prevented emergency teams from reaching the scene.

Faraj was later rescued with injuries and taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery and is reported to be in stable condition, though she sustained serious trauma including a head injury and a broken leg.

According to Lebanese authorities, the escalation of violence has had severe human consequences more broadly, with more than 2,200 people killed and over one million displaced since the expansion of Israeli military operations beginning in early March, in the context of wider regional conflict developments.
