Lebanon Reports Housing Destruction from Israeli Truce Violations

(MENAFN) Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research has reported extensive destruction in the country’s south, stating that hundreds of homes were destroyed over a short period due to alleged Israeli ceasefire violations, according to figures released on Wednesday.

The council said that 428 housing units were completely destroyed over the past three days, with an additional 50 units sustaining damage. The data was presented during the launch of a strategic initiative focused on environmental recovery following the conflict.

Officials also outlined broader destruction levels, noting that during 46 days of earlier military escalation prior to the ceasefire, tens of thousands of housing units were affected. According to the report, 17,756 homes were fully destroyed, while 32,668 others suffered partial damage.

Local media reports also indicated continued demolitions and explosions targeting residential buildings in areas still under Israeli control in southern Lebanon.

Since early March, Lebanon has reported a sharp escalation in violence, with official figures indicating thousands of deaths, widespread injuries, and large-scale displacement affecting over one million people.

Despite ongoing tensions, diplomatic engagement between Lebanon and Israel has recently resumed at an unprecedented level. The two sides held talks in Washington in mid-April—the first such meeting in more than four decades—and are expected to continue negotiations in a new round scheduled for Thursday, according to Lebanese sources.
